Today I dedicate the VTOTD segment to TCM Hitchhiker for creating this great vintage toy series and for allowing me to participate.
INVASION OF THE ROBOTS
8/27/04 The Art of Recycling
"Biotron" from the Micronauts, 13" (1976) Mego
Like the Micronauts themselves (based off Takara's Micromen) Biotron is a reworked version of Takara's Robotman from their "Victory Series" (notice the "VS" on front pelvis). A motorized beast with plenty of interchangability, Biotron had tons of groovy features. He could walk (sorta), convert to tank mode, and stash a Micronaut in his clear canopy. His lower legs could be assembled into a one man rocket sled. 5mm peg holes through out his body plus a set of connectors made him compatible with the rest of the Micronaut line.
Later he would be recycled again with candy colors (read: gay) and called "Cosmobot" for release by the Hour Toy company.
Interesting note: Micronauts (Micromen) would lead to Takara developing the "Transformers".

Well I figured you would like Biotron since you're the resident "Micro-nut".
You can kinda see the beginnings of the Transformers aesthetic with Biotron/Robotman, especially with MEGO's Optimus Prime/Starscream coloration.
Cool.
Damn, I've been missing this thread this week.... and all because of work!
I'll have to go back and catch up on them over the weekend!

The Inter-changeables definitely had some strange color choices going on.
And thanks for the dedication!
